A brow lift, also called forehead lift, is a cosmetic surgical procedure carried for various types of enhancements carried to the face like reducing the wrinkle lines that develop horizontally across the nose as well on the bridge of the nose and between the eyes, improves frown lines, raise brows that are sagging and give it a better look. It may be combined with other procedures like face lifting and skin resurfacing. During the procedure, the forehead may be taped and loosely wrapped to minimize swelling and bruising. A thin tube may be attached that drains out excess blood or fluid that collects under the skin.
The patient is given intravenous sedation or general anaesthesia.
In endoscopic lift performed using an endoscope, small incisions are made within the hairline, allowing tissues and muscles beneath the skin to be adjusted. Correction of sources that cause visible creases and furrows in the forehead is then done. In classical lift method, a coronal incision is made from one ear to another, across the top of the forehead above the skin. The forehead skin is lifted and muscle adjustments are made under direct visualization. The scars are well concealed within the hair. For people with high foreheads, an incision is placed at the anterior of the hairline and adjustments are made. The scars of incisions may be hidden with bangs. Sutures are closed with absorbable sutures, adhesives applied on skin, tapes used for surgery and special clips.
Follow the doctor’s advice on care at the surgical site, oral and topical medications, specific symptoms to watch and follow-up activities. Keep your head elevated and refrain from vigorous physical activities for a period as recommended by your surgeon. Do not apply force on the surgical incisions. Clarify all your doubts with your surgeon.
Initially the wounds may take 2 weeks to heal. Sutures and clips may be removed at any time as decided by the surgeon. You can resume normal activities after 2 weeks. Even though appearance improves, healing continues even after several weeks since dissipation of swelling requires time. Better results are visible once incision lines fade away. Life-long protection from sun is required to maintain the rejuvenated appearance. A healthy life style goes a long way to retain youthful appearance.
